White Chocolate Strawberry Scones

The addition of milky white chocolate chips makes it a delicious twist on strawberries and cream. The soft, buttery dough is filled with juicy strawberries, while the white chocolate chips add a smooth, creamy richness that perfectly complements the fruit.

I use fresh strawberries for this recipe, but freeze dried would work as well! Frozen strawberries will release excess moisture, so I would avoid using those!

Valentine’s Day inspired this recipe, but these Strawberry Scones are the perfect treat to enjoy year round!

Ingredients

  • cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 12 tbsp cold butter grated
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream for topping
  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar for topping
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp heavy cream
  • 3-4 mashed strawberries

Instructions

  • Mix together your dry ingredients of 2½ cups flour, 1 tbsp baking powder and 2 tbsp granulated sugar.
  • With a cheese grater, grate your cold butter and mix into dry ingredients with your hands until it reaches a mealy texture.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 egg, ¾ cup buttermilk and 1 tsp vanilla. Add to the bowl of dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in strawberries and 1 cup of whtie chocolate chips. Spread into a circle onto a baking sheet and cut into serving sizes, the same way you would a pizza.
  • Using a pastry brush, coat each scone in heavy cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden browned.
  • Mash the 3-4 fresh strawberries and add 1 tsp heavy cream and 2 tbsp powdered sugar to make icing. Add more cream 1 tsp at a time to thin the icing if needed to reach desired consistency. Drizzle over scones, slice and serve.
