Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce
As a kid my grandma would always add homemade strawberry sauce to our pancakes, waffles, or even by itself to eat out of a cup! So simple to make, and something that I always love to add to any breakfast or sweet treat to elevate it’s experience.

I don’t add any sweetners to the strawberry sauce, in my opinion it doesn’t’ need it, but you certainly could add a tablespoon of granulated sugar, maple syrup or honey if you’d like! I use frozen strawberries, but you can also use fresh. Using frozen will just add to the amount of time they need to simmer as there is more moisture in the berries.

Choosing the consistency is up to you, I like the sauce slightly thickened with some of the juices still to soak into the pancakes. The longer they simmer, the more water will evaporate and the thicker the sauce will become! Mash the berries as you frequently stir to release more of the juices.

With it being near Valentine’s Day, I formed the pancakes into heart shapes by adding the batter to a plastic sandwich bag (or piping bag) and piping it into a heart shape directly onto the hot griddle.

Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup pancake mix (I use Kodiak protein mix)
- ¾ cup milk **or follow pancake mix of choice directions for preparing batter
- 1 ½ cup strawberries fresh or frozen
Instructions
For the strawberry sauce:
- Add 1½ cups of fresh or frozen strawberries to a small saucepan and gently simmer for about 15 mins over medium low heat. Stir frequently and mash berries so the mixture is smooth. Keep the lid off so moisture can be released from the berries.
For the pancake mix:
- For Kodiak protein mix (or follow the provided instructions by pancake mix of choice): Mix pancake mix, milk and egg until lumpy and some flour streaks are still present, this will help create fluffy pancakes.
- If making heart shapes, transfer the batter into a plastic sandwich bag or piping bag. Snip the corner of the plastic bag and pipe the batter into a heart shaped on a medium heat, greased griddle. Flip once golden brown
- Top warm pancakes with butter, strawbrry topping and maple syrup, enjoy warm!
