If you’ve ever craved fresh homemade bread but didn’t have the time for overnight proofing or hours of kneading, this express artisan loaf is for you.

Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or as a festive centerpiece, this homemade loaf requires minimal effort and no stand mixer — just mix, rest, shape, and bake. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned baker, this pumpkin cinnamon swirl bread is the ultimate autumn treat!

Why This Pumpkin Cinnamon Swirl Artisan Loaf Works So Well

This artisan loaf is all about simplicity meeting bakery-style results. The pumpkin purée keeps the dough soft, moist, and lightly sweet, while the yeast gives it that airy, fluffy interior you’d expect from a fresh bakery loaf. As it bakes in a hot Dutch oven, the exterior develops a crisp, golden crust that contrasts beautifully with the tender inside.

The cinnamon swirl melts into soft, spiced ribbons throughout the bread, giving you warm pockets of brown sugar sweetness in every slice. It’s the kind of loaf that feels rustic and impressive but is surprisingly easy to make with minimal hands-on effort.

Tips for the Best Pumpkin Cinnamon Swirl Artisan Loaf

Preheat the Dutch oven. A hot pot is what creates that crisp, bakery-style crust.

Roll the dough tightly. This helps the cinnamon swirl stay defined instead of spreading out.

Let it cool before slicing. Cutting too early can make the swirl gummy instead of set.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use instant yeast instead of active dry yeast?
A: Yes. You can skip the blooming step and mix it directly into the dry ingredients.

Q: Why is my loaf dense?
A: This usually happens if the dough didn’t rise long enough or if the yeast wasn’t activated properly.

Q: Can I make the dough ahead of time?
A: Yes. You can refrigerate the dough after the first rise and bake it the next day for even more developed flavor.

Q: How should I store leftovers?
A: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2–3 days or freeze for longer storage. Warm slices before serving for the best texture.

This quick and easy artisan pumpkin bread is a must-try for fall baking! Made in just 2 hours, this no-knead recipe delivers a soft, fluffy interior with a beautifully crisp crust.
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • tsp dry active yeast
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ cup pumpkin purée
  • cup warm water
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • 2 tbsp room temperature butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, 1 tbsp brown sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
  • Add pumpkin purée, remaining 2 tbsp brown sugar, salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir in flour gradually until a sticky dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a towel and let the dough rise at room temperature for about 1 hour. After 40 minutes, place your Dutch oven (with lid) inside the oven and preheat to 450°F.
  • In a small bowl, mix 2 tbsp brown sugar with 1–1½ tsp cinnamon. Turn the risen dough onto a floured surface and gently flatten into a rectangle. Brush with softened butter, sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture, then roll up jelly-roll style. Tuck ends under to form a round loaf.
  • Second Rise: Place the dough seam-side down on parchment in a bowl. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Carefully lower the dough on the parchment into the preheated Dutch oven. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the lid and bake uncovered for another 5–10 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Let cool at least 30 minutes before slicing to allow the swirl to set.
